Ilkidinga is a village only 7km north of Arusha town. It has
played a role in the history of Waarusha. The Arusha town reflected
its name from the Maasai tribe waarusha. The Lutheran missionaries
from German and Sabaya, chief of Waarusha, agreed in 1904 to build
the first church and school in ilboru. On that time youngsters were
invited to study at the boarding school. In 1907 the first young men
were baptized. Esizo Bene Kokan became Simeon, Lenjivai kivuyo
became Johannes…In those days girls were were assigned a man to
marry, and if they refused they were beaten. They were running away
from their home and the missionaries received them in their schools.
Communication between chiefs and the British ruler took place by
letters. But in those days very few people attended schools.
Here you have a great time to study much about the Maasai cultural
and their lovely enviroment together with their cattle. This is your
